The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Indian Energy works to empower Native communities to develop local energy solutions by providing financial and technical assistance and helping build local capacity for a more sustainable future.
The Office of Indian Energy provides federally recognized Indian Tribes, including Alaska Native regional and village corporations, and Tribal entities, with technical assistance to advance Tribal energy projects.
The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation supports expanding transportation options for consumers, and is facilitating the adoption of electrified transportation in collaboration with Tribal nations by providing comprehensive technical assistance and resources.

The Joint Office provides technical assistance to Tribal nations on the planning and implementation of a national network of EV chargers and zero-emission fueling infrastructure, as well as zero-emission transit and school buses.
This program from the Tribes & Climate Change Program at the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) offers free, ongoing technical assistance for Tribes who may be facing barriers to starting or completing climate change-related species and/or ecological resilience projects that help our non-human relatives to survive and thrive in a changing climate.

Take advantage of ICARP grant programs and Adaptation Clearinghouse through OPR. Check out visualized climate vulnerability data via Cal-Adapt. As of November 2025, CalOPR launched the Vulnerable Communities Platform (VCP), an easy-to-use tool that shows how climate change impacts are expected to affect California communities. This interactive map combines both social and climate data to identify communities most vulnerable to extreme heat, flooding, sea level rise, drought, and wildfires.
Through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office, the Tribal Nation Transmission Program provides technical support and assistance, educational resources (e.g., attend a workshop) and participant support (e.g., compensation to attend input sessions).

The Native Learning Center (NLC) is a model activity program of the Seminole Tribe of Florida (STOF) that provides free training and technical assistance to Native Americans. The NLC develops curriculum and delivers training that supports the primary objectives of NAHASDA and EWONAP’s mission of promoting the development of Native housing and housing related activities. The NLC provides participants with best practices curriculum that can be shared with their Tribal communities.

The Conservation Capacity Project provides free wraparound services and guidance to support conservation nonprofits and Tribes in strengthening their organizations, navigating uncertainty, and leading with confidence to continue land, wildlife, and water conservation efforts. The Community Mitigation Assistance Team (CMAT) is a national interagency technical assistance resource designed to support communities facing wildfire risk by strengthening local capacity for community wildfire mitigation. CMAT works with communities, agencies, and partners to identify mitigation challenges, improve coordination, and support the development of sustainable, locally led wildfire mitigation efforts. CMAT assignments are tailored to individual community needs and occur before, during, or after wildfire incidents.
CMAT supports communities by providing facilitation, technical guidance, and mentorship focused on building long term wildfire mitigation capacity. Request a CMAT.
