Eligibility
Public agency, local agency, nonprofit organization, special district, joint powers authority, Tribe, public utility, local publicly owned utility, or mutual water company.
Eligible Activities
Activities that improve local fire prevention capacity, improve landscape health and resilience, and reduce the risk of wildfire spreading into populated areas from wildlands and support fire-adapted communities and landscapes:
- Regionally appropriate landscape resilience
- Forested landscape resilience
- Non-forest landscape resilience
- Community hazardous fuels reduction or modification
- Prescribed and cultural fire
- Pest management
- Reforestation and revegetation
- Biomass Utilization
- Maintenance
- Planning
- Workforce Education & Training
Duration
Notable Requirements
No match or cost share required, but projects that leverage CAL FIRE funds with other state, federal, local, and/or private/philanthropic investments are a priority for Regional Grants funding.
Regional Grantees will be required to perform a science-based assessment of landscape and community conditions and utilize decision-support tools or subject matter expertise of their choice to prioritize a portfolio of projects for funding.
Preferences
- Concept Proposal Scoring Criteria: Project Description, Activities, and Intent (30 points); Organizational Capacity, Partnerships, and Prioritization Process (30 points); Strategic Alignment and Program Fit (30 points); and Preliminary Budget and Cost-Effectiveness (10 points) for 100 total possible points.
- Regional Project Scoring Criteria: Regional Priority Plan (10 points), Regional Project Scope of Work (10 points), letters of support (10 points), applicant team's administrative, technical, and operational capacity (10 points), budget (10 points), project leverages CAL FIRE funds with other funds (10 points), project advances regional capacity to develop, prioritize, and implement wildfire and landscape resilience projects (10 points), conservation corps services enlisted (5 points), project serves disadvantaged communities (10 points), and environmental compliance (10 points) for 100 total possible points.
