DOE’s Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs intended to release a $25 million notice of funding opportunity to support energy technology deployment on Tribal lands. Awards were anticipated to range from $100,000 to $2.5 million or from $250,000 to $5 million, depending on the area of interest: Install energy generating systems and/or energy efficiency measures for Tribal buildings; deploy community-scale energy generating system(s) or energy storage on Tribal Lands; install integrated energy systems for autonomous operation to power a single or multiple essential Tribal buildings during emergency situations or for Tribal community resilience; or power unelectrified Tribal buildings. The NOFO was expected to be issued in Spring 2025. In September 2025, this opportunity was completely removed from the page. Previously it said TBD.

Managed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office and supported by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants provide non-competitive funding to states and Indian Tribes to improve the resilience of their electric grids. Administered by the National Energy Technology Laboratory and falling under BIL provision 40101(d), the program is designed to strengthen and modernize America’s power grid against wildfires, extreme weather, and other natural disasters that are exacerbated by the climate crisis. The application and allocation request period was expected to open in February 2025, but has not been announced yet. The TECC team is in close contact with DOE NETL leads about program updates. Direct technical assistance will be available to TECC Tribes as soon as new funding is released. Competitive Edge is a collaborative outreach initiative designed to empower local residents, strengthen community partnerships, and connect local talent with long-term careers in the utility sector. Their signature program is a 6-week, 224-hour pre-apprenticeship that prepares San Diego residents ages 18+ for careers in the utility industry.Each cohort brings together 20 candidates for a 6-week, 224-hour pre-apprenticeship. Participants receive: a weeklong bootcamp and hands-on technical training; OSHA and First Aid/CPR certifications; resume building and workplace communication workshops; and personal development and career readiness support. SDCE provides a weekly per-hour stipend along with daily breakfast and lunch. Each participant is also paired with a dedicated mentor who provides guidance throughout the program.
